Has sun exposure over the years given you something you didn't bargain for? Namely, brown or red spots on your hands, arms, legs or face. Laser therapy is one of the most exciting treatments for removing unwanted age spots and reviving your skin’s appearance.

How does laser pigment removal work?
Lasers work by producing light that passes harmlessly through the top layers of the skin to be selectively absorbed by the pigment. This laser energy causes the pigment to fragment into smaller particles that are gradually removed by the body's immune system. It effectively removes age spots, sunspots and many other kinds of brown-colored spots.

What types of pigmented lesions can be treated?
In general (with the exception of moles), most pigment lesions can be successfully treated. Lesions usually respond very quickly to laser therapy.

Does it hurt?
The use of the laser for pigmented lesions may feel like a rubber band snapping the skin.

Is it safe?
There is little risk of side effects with laser treatment for the removal of age/brown spots. Your provider will discuss with you the potential risks of your specific condition prior to treatment.

How long will it take?
Your procedure will take 10 to 30 minutes, depending upon the size and number of areas being treated.

Will I need more than one treatment?
Pigmented lesions typically require one to two treatment sessions spaced four to eight weeks apart.

What should I expect after treatment?
Following treatment, the area may become whitish-colored and swell slightly. The site might form a scab that should heal in about 7 to 10 days.
