Botox injections can do a lot more than just erase wrinkles – they can provide a relaxed and natural look, so you look rested, but not frozen! Concern over loss of expression is the number one reason many people want Botox, but hesitate to go for treatment. Botox has become the most commonly performed aesthetic treatment in the world and there’s a good reason for that.

Years ago when Botox was relatively new, less was known about how best to use this versatile agent. Too many patients were over-injected causing them to have this undesirable appearance.

A lot has changed, though, since Botox received FDA approval in 2002 to improve frown lines. Studies established protocols for the optimum usage of Botox. And physicians around the world have gained more experience with Botox, so usage of the product is now much better understood. In the right hands, Botox injections should never result in a frozen face. Aside from quick removal of wrinkles for a refreshed, rejuvenated look, the greatest benefit of Botox is no downtime. Patients can go back to their normal routine immediately.

BOTOX injections usually take about 10-15 minutes. Shortly thereafter, Botox begins blocking nerve transmission to specific muscles, putting those muscles to rest for the next few months. That causes wrinkles in the affected muscles to virtually disappear. The full effects of Botox appear within 2 to 10 days after injection and results last approximately 4 months. The most common areas for treatment are frown lines, wrinkles in the forehead and crow’s feet. Botox is commonly used in combination with dermal fillers such as Restylane and Juvederm, often on the same day.

BOTOX® and Dermal Fillers, what's the difference?

BOTOX®
is for "dynamic wrinkles" or wrinkles that are made by movement.  BOTOX® injections temporarily paralyze the muscle making it difficult and/or not possible to make expressions that wrinkle the face. BOTOX® treatments last up to 4 months.

Dermal Fillers are for "static wrinkles" or wrinkles that are present regardless of facial expression.  Fillers do just what they sound like, they temporarily "fill" in the wrinkles with a natural substance that is eventually absorbed by the body. Dermal Fillers last 6 months or longer.

As your skin changes in time, your desires and needs also change. Since Botox and Dermal Fillers are not permanent, you will have the flexibility to modify your treatments to match your desired results.
